The Future Governance model is equal or better than a traditional board of directors in many respects:
- The member opinion database
- contains many consensus decisions which provides consistent and evolving direction to the organization,
- avoids the policy swings of elected decision-makers
- instant responses
- transparent
- structured data is easy to search and reference (unlike meeting minutes)
- represents the opinions of dozens to 100s of members (not just majority of the board)
- expresses and differentiates all ranges of opinions, from polarized to consensus (boards minutes generally just record "agreements" which just require majority
- Participation in decision-making is objectively representative of the members, either directly (with most members participating) or through a random sample that is descriptively representative (e.g. by demographics, types of stakeholders)
- Surveys and meetings are professionally facilitated and evaluated for quality process and results
- The Reporter role holds the Facilitator and Executive accountable
- All three roles are hired professionals, thus a much higher caliber of skills, experience and responsibility than volunteers.
- Invites creativity as the door always open to contributions for broad member consideration
Overall, Future Governance allows organizations to be directed by their members in a manner that is reliably wise, nimble and efficient.
